The game begins in the Amazing universe, with Spider-Man discovering the tablet at the end of a corridor with several animal heads mounted on the walls. He escapes several booby traps that were set and grabs the tablet. He is then knocked out by sleeping gas, and recognizes Kraven the Hunter before passing out. The gameplay is much similar to that of its predecessor, in which the player is free to roam the game world at will without having to focus on the game's storyline, much similar to that of other sandbox style action games, like the Grand Theft Auto series of video games. Several new additions and improvements to the game were explained by the lead designer of the game, Peter Johansson. The AI has been rewritten for Just Cause 2. It now uses a planning system which enables enemies to do all sorts of new things. For example, the enemies will use the environment to their advantage, taking cover behind objects and adapting dynamically to the objects around them. The hybrid aiming system is also a new feature that helps the player to quickly aim at enemies while leaving the player in full control over the crosshair, as such, the player is rewarded for skillful manual aiming. It also enables you to pinpoint specific limbs manually and have varied crippling effects on the enemy. Just Cause 2 also has an adaptive difficulty system, gradually scaling the difficulty as the player does more in the game.

Saints Row: The Third (also known as Saints Row 3) is an open world action-adventure video game developed by Volition, Inc. and published by THQ.

Having defeated all their rivals in Stilwater at the end of Saints Row 2, the Saints have turned their street gang into a media empire after merging with the Ultor Corporation. They have since become icons across the world, with their own energy drink, a large fanbase, and a movie deal in the works. But when they attempt to rob a bank with Josh Birk (an actor who is "researching" his part for the Saints' movie) in tow, their everyday routine takes an unlikely turn when the bank tellers fight back. The Saints attempt to airlift the vault out of the building, but when Birk sets off the alarm, it alerts the Stilwater P.D. and the Saints are incarcerated.

In prison, Johnny Gat dawns on what the Saints have become, but an international crime organization called The Syndicate bribes the police to release the Saints' leader, Gat, and Shaundi. The three are taken to the Syndicate's leader, Phillipe Loren, to try and negotiate a business plan with them aboard Loren's private jet. While in-flight, Loren tells them they will be allowed to live if they turn over two-thirds of their revenue made in Stilwater. The leader of the Saints rejects this offer and a gunfight breaks out, with the Saint's leader and Shaundi escaping from the jet while Johnny Gat tried to hold back their enemies, only to be presumably killed.

A major difference from previous open world video games is that many buildings are accessible to the player beyond those related to the game's story. These include restaurants, hotels, apartment buildings, pharmacies, clothing shops, car dealers, dojos, record stores, and more. Besides shopping opportunities at some locations, the random street crimes brought back from the first game often occur within building interiors as well. Players can also purchase food (which increases health) from New York City's many hot dog stands.

Bridges such as the Brooklyn Bridge that lead off the island are present but blocked off. However, there is a glitch where Marcus can get past the otherwise unclimbable fence at the Willis Avenue Bridge and cross the bridge, but will respawn back in Manhattan when he gets to the other side. Parks such as Washington Square Park and Central Park are accessible; the Statue of Liberty is not but can be seen from Battery Park. Using the debug menu to access the debug camera reveals the statue's tablet bears the same inscription as it does in real life.

Times Square features the familiar bright neon lights, and the Naked Cowboy can be found playing his guitar. There is also a replica of the TKTS booth. Grand Central Terminal is the only major landmark that can be entered any time by the player, but the actual subway stop is inaccessible for most of the game. In the game's story, the other major landmark that is featured as a setting is the American Museum of Natural History.

Other landmark buildings such as the Empire State Building, the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, the United Nations headquarters, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center and the Chrysler Building are present but can not be entered. A few areas, particularly in northern Manhattan (such as the Columbia University campus), are recreated exactly as in real life. The Guggenheim Museum, the Manhattan Municipal Building, the MetLife Building, the MetLife Tower, the Flatiron Building, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Citigroup Center, and the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle feature accurately in the game, and Belvedere Castle and the Bethesda Terrace in Central Park are both present. The World Trade Center site is depicted in its 2005 condition: cleaned up and closed off.
