وفي الجهة الأخرى تحرك القائد طارق بن زياد مع كوكبة من الجنود المشاة لا يتعدى عددهم 12 ألف مقاتل نحو الأمام يبحثون عن مكان يليق بمواجهة لوذزيق و جيشه الجرار الذي وصل عدده لحوالي 100 ألف مقاتل، من البداية تتضح أن الأرقام غير متوازنة، 12 ألف من المشاة مقابل مائة ألف فارس.. هذا ضرب من الجنون، و هذا انتحار جماعي لا محالة، هكذا هو تفكير المحبطين و أصحاب الحسابات المنطقية التي لا تمت للواقع بصلة، أما المؤمنون فقد قرؤوا قول الله تعالى "كم من فئة قليلة غلبت فئة كثيرة بإذن الله"وصل طارق بن زياد إلى سهل برباط على ضفاف وادي برباط ويسمى كذلك وادي لكة وقرر أن ينتظر في هذا المكان حتى يصل لوذريق، وما هي إلا أيام قليلة حتى بدأت جحافيل البشر تموج نحو السهل موجًا، و تثير الغبار تحت أقدامها نقعًا، إنّه لوذريق وجيشه الجرّار، إلتقى الجمعان في يوم 28 رمضان من سنة 92 هـ وبدأت أصوات السيوف تقرع بين الجانبين، أخذ ورد، كرّ و فرّ، ضربة هنا تقابلها ضربة هناك، استمرت المعركة لثمانية أيام وسبع ليالي كاملة تخللها يوم عيد الفطر، وفي آخر المطاف حُسمت جولات المعركة ومالت الكفة كل الميل لصالح من شعارهم "الله أكبر" و تمكنت الجيوش الإسلامية من تحقيق النصر في أول معركة على أرض الأندلس و تم القضاء على جيش لوذريق الذي فر من المعركة ولم يسمع له أثر بعد ذلك، و قد استشهد من المسلمين ثلاثة آلاف مجاهد، غنم المسلمون كل سلاح العدو وكانت الخيول و البغال أكبر سلاح يقع بيد الجيش الإسلامي، وبالتالي فُتح الباب على مصراعيه من أجل إكمال الفتوحات.
